Day two: a chunk of nail came off!

In the morning and night I repeated the procedure. Cleaning, soaking, drying, taking off residues and applying the NONYX. While doing it, the only thing worth to mention is that a good piece of dark and thicken nail came off. You can see it in the picture, it is the white chunk. I'm impressed this happened in only one day!! It took six or seven for the big toe.

Big nail toe regime: 2nd day after half nail came off

So, here what I've done since one day ago with big toe, after the nail came off.

1. I washed my feet with soap and water.

2. I soaked toe in warm water (~1 cup) with salt (~1 small spoon) for around 10 min.

3. I dried my feet up and remove all the stuff coming off nail, mostly white nail and skin wastes. I'm guessing that's the keratin derbis.

4. Given that I had previously -and it seems that is still a risk for me- a ingrowing nail in the right corner of nail, I'm separating the skin from the area where the nail is supposed to grow as much as I can. I'm also pushing out the corner of that nail. That does hurts a little.

5. I applied NONYX in the sides the nail and the nail.

6. I applied NEOSPORIN in the area of the skin that is sort of infected.

DAY ONE: Actually this is day 7 but my firs post

OK. This was hurting a little. And the skin surrounding the nail looked really sore. When applying NONYX some little drops of a light pus like liquid was coming off from the skin. I was worried. This was yesterday. Now, it is not hurting so badly, just a little itchy and it feels really weird to have only a half (infected) nail.

Let me tell you how I started by showing you my two little toes. On which I I have not done anything, until today. That is, this is day one for my little toe nails. This is how my big nail toe looked like 8 days ago. (Respectively, right and left little toes).

Here what I did.

The first thing was to file and smooth out the "nail" with a emery board. Here how it looked after. [ <<< --- ]

The second was to apply NONYX. One drop in the case of the little toes, 3 drops in the big one. [--- >>>]

After applying NONYX for a week, the nail broke up. Since it was hanging off of my toe, I cut it off. It didn't hurt at all. It simply got unattached to the skin. Well, half of it. The firs picture in this entry is how it looks. Next entry today's big toe regime.

INTRODUCTION: FIGHTING MY TOENAIL FUNGUS!

Here we go! I got my two little toes infected while ago, say, by 1998. I didn't do much about it, because what I did didn't work so well. Basically, applying anti-fungal to them, keeping them as dry and clean as possible. I gave up. So I lived with my symbiotic friends for at least 10 years. I did a good job taking care of the rest of my toe nails.

Last year, however, I got a horrible ingrowing nail. It got infected really bad. After taking it off, everything seemed to be alright. This was around February 2009. My toe looked recovered by April or a little later, perhaps. I started again to have pedicures and polish my nails.

By the end of Summer (2009) I noticed that, exactly in the same little corner where the ingrowing nail was before, my nail was a little white. I thought, at first, that a new ingrowing nail was getting into my skin. So I just let it there and cut it off as most as I could. I continued polishing my toe nails. For the most part, without really taking care of the state of my nails, given the fact that polish nails last a long time in my feet and I mostly went have pedicures (I didn't do it by myself).

What a mistake! It happened that around a month ago, I finally took off the polish and what a disgusting surprise! My left big toe nail was getting really thick and yellowish/greenish! Gross! I thought that I should not let the fungus get worst, nor become a part of me (as I did with my two little toe nails). The fact that it is the big one made me realize how bad it looks!

So, I look for a lot of products over the internet and drugstores. And decided to try NONYX, which even if some people claimed is nothing but vinegar, it has starting to have some (I hope positive) effects on my big toenail.

Given that I have look for blogs, pictures, etc., in the internet to give me an idea whether my toe is healing appropriately or not, and I have not found really much, I'm starting this blog. Hopefully I will be successful! If so, I hope this could help some to have a reference of someone who had gone through the process.

Disclaimer! I'm not trying to teach people how to cure their toenail fungus. My purpose here is to illustrate my own case. You might try what I did, if successful, after all. May be, add some steps to your routine that, you consider, might help to your own situation. The responsibility of your toes is yours, as it is my own with my poor infected toes. Hopefully this will be of some utility for some of you!
